What I Made is a series sharing what handmade designs I'm working on lately here at HTK. Whether I'm having an assembly line moment or working on a new design, I am always busy making things. Thanks for taking a peek behind the curtain!
Happy Thought Knits is a one-woman operation, and since I am the one who is personally behind the scenes making all the magic and chaos happen (Hi! I'm Megan btw), I thought it would be nice to write more blogs that feel less "SEO" and more "Dear Diary." So here I am, sharing the latest Happy Thought happenings.
In a few days I will be popping up at a hair salon in downtown Cleveland. They are hosting an all-day event where they are donating 10% of their proceeds to the American Heart Association. I met the owner, Rachelle, at a women's business summit at the end of May, where I was vending with a little pop-up table. At the summit, I had my leftover inventory (a few sweaters and tank tops), a ton of keychains, and just a handful of mystery boxes that sold out in a flurry. Rachelle loved the vibes, and invited me to vend at her upcoming fundraiser. I excitedly said yes!
I knew for this event I needed a few unique items, and hair accessories seemed the obvious choice. In my design notebook I already had a scrunchie in the works, so I wanted to finalize that design and get a bunch made. The other idea I had was to turn my bow bag charm into a cute hair tie by sewing an elastic on the back instead of using the carabiner. Honestly, the bow bag charm is so simple but I find it to be the most precious sweetie pie wittle baby bow that I ever ever saw... ahem... sorry for the overreaction. But yeah, to picture it tied to some super fashionable lady's high ponytail, or a little girl's long braid, has me in happy tears.
Wanna see a preview of the scrunchies and bows?

Squeeee! Aren't they so cute?!
The other custom item I immediately thought of for this fundraiser event was a heart keychain, because obviously—American Heart Association! Here she is:

I already got this one ready and up on the website, so if you're as obsessed as I am, you can grab one today. At the event I will be donating 10% of the proceeds for this one to AHA, so if you're local, swing by the Studio Salon Downtown on June 24 between 10:00-2:00.
And if you know me, you know my ADHD brain is always on overdrive, and I have a hugely inflated ego when it comes to believing I can do something I've never done before. So I have to share that when I made this heart keychain, my brain immediately went to, GIRL, what if you knitted an anatomically accurate heart as a fiber sculpture?? Ummmm, maybe, LOL. I will let you all know if that really happens.
Another idea I had for this event was to make combs or brushes on a keychain, but to be honest, the spikes sound annoying to make in 3D. So I thought of an alternative. I bought a few 4-inch embroidery hoops from Michaels and I'm going to see if I can knit the fabric background on my machine, then embroider on a comb or brush design. They'd be little hanging art displays. Wouldn't that be so cute??
Anyway, enough ideating... I have to get to making this stuff! Wish me luck, and thanks for reading.
